Project 1: Jump Rope Dress by Oliver + S
After reading the feedback for this pattern (Jump Rope Dress, view B) on the Oliver + S Discussion Boards I decided to make a 2T rather than 18-24 months. Normally these patterns run big and I have a tiny girl. However, other sewers have said that the shape of this dress tends to make it hard to put on and get back off, and Halcyone has been growing too! Again, I am grateful for the detail in the pattern instructions. This was my first collared project. As usual, I opted for Snap Source snaps rather than buttons and button holes. I used a deep purple corduroy from Jo-Ann and a quarter yard of nicer quilting cotton from a local shop for the contrasting pieces. It was fun to sew, but it took a bit more fussing and time than some of their other patterns.
Project 2: The Lucy Tunic by Shwin Designs
I saw this Lucy Tunic pattern on Pinterest a few months ago and purchased it. I had been waiting for the perfect fabric to try it on and found a great voile top at a clothing swap last weekend that no one wanted. I grabbed it and a few others to cut and make into little girl clothes. This is a reversible top; the other side is a basic lavender cotton from Jo-Ann. I made the size 2. It is a bit big, but will be fine for layering over a long sleeved white shirt this winter. I LOVE the way it turned out! It was easy to sew. The hardest part was ironing and hemming the sleeves together. Again, I used my handy snaps rather than buttons. I will definitely make more of these!
